February always feels like the start of something new in the garden. It’s still cold, the days are still short, but there’s a definite shift — a sense that it’s time to begin again, slowly and intentionally.
This month, I’m starting small and realistic, focusing on crops that fit both my space and my energy right now. I may add to this list once I’ve properly mapped out how much room I have, but for now, this is what I’m planting in February.
What I’m planting this month
Sweet peppers
These need a long growing season, so February is the perfect time to get them started indoors. They’ll be slow at first, but they’re always worth the wait.
Hot peppers
Similar to sweet peppers, these benefit from an early start. I love having a mix — some for cooking, some just for fun, and some to test my spice tolerance.
Lettuce
One of my favourites for early sowing. It’s quick, forgiving, and perfect for small, steady harvests rather than one big glut.
Cauliflower
This one takes patience, but starting early gives it the best chance. I’m being realistic with how many I grow — quality over quantity.
Broccoli
Another slower crop, but one I always find satisfying. It feels like a long-term investment in the garden.
I’m intentionally not overfilling my seed trays this month. I want to see how everything grows, how much space I actually have, and what feels manageable. Gardening is meant to be enjoyable, not overwhelming.
Gardening without rushing
I’m learning that it’s okay not to plant everything at once. February is about beginnings, not perfection. I’ll reassess as the month goes on and add more if it feels right — not because I feel I should.
A little book project I’ve been working on
Alongside planting this year, I’ve been working on something really special to me.
I’m writing a non-fiction gardening book that follows the year month by month — what to plant, how to plant it, when to care for it, and when to harvest. It’s designed to be completely beginner-friendly, so you can read along and follow each month as it comes.
I’ll be writing and refining it throughout this year, using my own garden as I go. The idea is that when January comes around again, the book feels like a calm companion you can trust — not overwhelming, not complicated, just practical and encouraging.
The plan is for it to be available to buy in January 2027.
Growing at my own pace
This year, both in the garden and beyond it, I’m choosing to go slower. To plant what I have space for. To learn as I go. To trust that growth doesn’t need to be rushed to be meaningful.
February is just the beginning — and that feels like enough for now 🌿
